YOUR EYES
I love your eyes, those twinkling eyes,
They speak of a thousand things.

It glows and I drown in its intensity,
I would love to stay there forever.

It evokes myriad memories,
And leaves an imprint on me.

I consider myself lucky enough,
To have experienced its warmth.

When cupid's arrow strikes,
The world seems apparelled in celestial light,
Like the glory and freshness of your eyes.

Just like the morning dew,
Exotic and beautiful.

Every time I look into your eyes,
I'm lost in innumerable memories,
Thus forgetting the world behind me.

I wouldn't expect anything much,
Than just being the Apple of your eye!
PERSONAL RESPOND

Just like the first poem, I have never heard of the poem nor the poet. You can try googling but I think there's nothing much there, so don't bother. She is an Indonesian writer and looking at it positively, I think that this is a good idea. But I really hope that MoE has asked for permission to use her poem because we don't want another conflict to arise (got my point?). Okay, enough rambling, let's start...

Dealing with the obvious first, let's look at the RHYMING SCHEME: a,a,a,a... yes, the rhyming scheme is uniformed throughout the whole poem. This is IMHO the strong point of this poem. This would be an x-factor that could attract students to this poem. Especially, in my case where nurturing the love towards the beauty of literature is quite challenging with poems with the like of Monsoon History (no offence, it's a good poem... but you got my point right?). For beginner-intermediate students who are still struggling with simple vocabularies, asking them to love such poems is almost like forcing a 0.7mm pencil lead into the 0.5 mechanical pencil :) This poem is different though. It's meaning is not entirely simple. Yet, it is verbally beautiful. The uniformed rhymes gives life to the poem. A lot of while reading activities can be crafted into interesting lesson when teaching this poem. Just by reading aloud, even without instruction, the poem would still sound interesting. And this is very important for beginner students. This poem is not unlike song lyrics, thus, I think you got my idea.
Tracking down and finding your Soul Mate
Sure, we all dream about meeting the right person. . . the one that we are meant to be with forever. Dreaming about it is all fun and easy, but the real question is, where do you find this soul mate of yours? Fate? Well yes, if you believe in fate, then yes, it will have something to do with it, but not without effort on your part. Fate needs you to give it direction so that as a team, you can find the person you have always wanted as a part of your life.
The first thing you have to do before finding your soul mate, is finding yourself. What qualities are important to you? What are your morals and beliefs? How do you show your affection and how do you expect it to be presented to you? These are questions necessary for you to ask yourself before going out there. Giving yourself an interview will make things clearer of what type of person you are really looking for, instead of just going on a blind search.
It is very common for a person to date people just for dating. While dating is a fun and useful experience, it is not advisable to just go out with anyone just to have a date, or to enter a relationship because you do not want to be alone. When you go out on a date, it is important that you use that date as an opportunity to observe and see if the person is someone you would like to see again and if they carry the qualities you are looking for. If, for example, if you are searching for a person who is in touch with his or her romantic side, but go on a date with someone who likes acting rough at baseball games and loves hunting, then you could pretty much see where the relationship would go. You should be able to sense these qualities after a few dates.
Once you have realized that these dates will not lead to a relationship you have dreamed of, then obviously the person is not your dream mate either, and it would be best if you stop seeing each other to prevent any misleading expectations. Continuing to date someone just because you entered a comfort zone or do not want to hurt their feelings will only hold you back from meeting who you are really meant to be with, not to mention waste precious time for both you and your dates. Gently break it to him or her that you find them to be a very interesting and nice person, but you feel like going solo for a while and then move on.
Tracking down your soul mate will require patience; so do not feel frustrated or hopeless if you do not find him or her in a certain amount of time. Good things take time to be brought together and you will come together when the time is right. The time becomes right when you look out for the right signs.

Occupation: nurse, reformer

Known for: founder of the modern nursing profession as a trained profession. Head British nurse, Crimean War.

Also known as: Lady with the Lamp; Flo

About Florence Nightingale:
Born to a comfortable family, Florence Nightingale was educated by governesses and then by her father, with her older sister, Panthenope. She was familiar with the Greek and Latin classical languages, and modern languages of French, German, and Italian. She also studied history, grammar, and philosophy. At twenty, she overcame parental objections to receive tutoring in mathematics.

On February 7, 1837, Florence Nightingale heard, by her account, the voice of God telling her that she had a mission in life. It took her some years of searching to identify that mission. This was the first of four occasions where Florence Nightingale said she heard the voice of God.

By 1844, over parental objections, Florence Nightingale chose a different path than the social life and marriage expected of her by her parents -- she chose to work in nursing, which was then not quite a respectable profession for women.

Florence Nightingale went to Kaiserwerth in Prussia to experience a German training program for girls who would serve as nurses. She worked briefly for a Sisters of Mercy hospital near Paris. Her views began to be respected.

In 1853, Florence Nightingale became the (unpaid) superintendent of London's Institution for the Care of Sick Gentlewomen.

When the Crimean War began, reports came back to England about terrible conditions for wounded and sick soldiers. Florence Nightingale volunteered to go to Turkey, and at the urging of a family friend, then secretary of state at war, she took a large group of women as nurses. Thirty-eight women, including 18 Anglican and Roman Catholic sisters, accompanied Florence Nightingale to the warfront.

Florence Nightingale left England on October 21, 1854, and entered the military hospital at Scutari, Turkey, on November 5, 1854.

From 1854-56, Florence Nightingale headed nursing efforts in English military hospitals in Scutari, Turkey. She stablished more sanitary conditions and ordered supplies, beginning with clothing and bedding. She gradually won over -- at least enough to get cooperation -- the military doctors. She used significant funds raised by the London Times.

Soon, Florence Nightingale focused more on administration than on actual nursing. But she continued to visit the wards, and to send letters back home from injured and ill soldiers. Her rule that she be the only woman in the wards at night earned her the title "The Lady with the Lamp." The mortality rate at the military hospital fell from 60% at her arrival to 2% six months later.

Florence Nightingale applied her education and interest in mathematics to develop statistical analyses of disease and mortality, inventing the use of the pie chart.

Florence Nightingale fought both a not-too-willing military bureaucracy and her own illness with Crimean fever to eventually become general superintendent of the Female Nursing Establishment of the Military Hospitals of the Army (March 16, 1856).

Florence Nightingale was already a heroine in England when she returned, though she actively worked against the adulation of the public. She helped to establish the Royal Commission on the Health of the Army in 1857, and gave evidence to the commission and compiled her own report, published privately in 1858. She also became involved -- from London -- in advising on sanitation in India.

Florence Nightingale was quite ill from 1857 until the end of her life, living in London, mostly as an invalid. Her illness, never identified, may have been organic or psychosomatic -- some have even suspected it was intentional, to give her the privacy and time to continue her writing. She could choose when to receive visits from people including her family members.

In 1860 she founded the Nightingale School and Home for Nurses in London, England, using funds contributed by the public to honor her work in the Crimea. In 1861, she helped inspire the Liverpool system of district nursing, which later spread widely.

Elizabeth Blackwell's plan for opening a Woman's Medical College (it opened in 1868 and continued for 31 years) was developed in consultation with Florence Nightingale.

By 1901, Florence Nightingale was completely blind. The King awarded her the Order of Merit in 1907, making Florence Nightingale the first woman to receive that honor.

Florence Nightingale declined the offer of a national funeral and of burial at Westminster Abbey, requesting that her grave be marked simply

boolean search

what does boolean seach mean?

Boolean searches allow you to combine words and phrases using the words AND, OR, NOT and NEAR (otherwise known as Boolean operators) to limit, widen, or define your search. Most Internet search engines and Web directories default to these Boolean search parameters anyway, but a good Web searcher should know how to use basic Boolean operators.

•The Boolean search operator AND is equal to the "+" symbol.
•The Boolean search operator NOT is equal to the "-" symbol.
•The Boolean search operator OR is the default setting of any search engine; meaning, all search engines will return all the words you type in, automatically.
•The Boolean search operator NEAR is equal to putting a search query in quotes, i.e., "sponge bob squarepants". You're essentially telling the search engine that you want all of these words, in this specific order, or this specific phrase

SETTING
The story revolves around two main setting:Lucy's house which she shares with her mother
and her Uncle Bert, and the office of Ross and Bannister's where Lucy works as a secretary.

CHARACTERS
Lucy Beck :She is a young, shy and insecure graduate of secreterial studies. She is
dissatisfied with her current life and is determined to improve it.She
\ obtains a position with Ross and Bannister's,only to find that the position
comes with her chilling secret.
Ghost of Ms. :She was a previous employee of Ross and Bannister's.She is unwilling
to Bloome let go of her position and continous to defend her
post.even after her demise.
Lucy's mother:A housewife who lives a hard life. She has to support her brother.
Uncle Bert :Depends on his sister for support.he is also drunkard.
Harry Bert :Ross and Bannister's handyman. He is an old man who has been working with the company
for years.

Mr Ross :The younger partner of the company.

THEMES.

Possible theme that can in the short story are determination, possessiveness, loyalty loneliness, commitment, the supernatural, and compassion.

DETERMINATION.
Despite the supernatural nature by which Ms.Broome badgers and demoralises lucy , she shows no sign of giving in to her demand. Instead, she is steadfast in defending her position as the secretary .

POSSESIVENESS.
Not even death could part Ms .Broome from what she feels is rightfully hers. She continues to haunt the office through her electronic typewriter.

LOYALTY.
As with her possesiveness towards her job, Ms. Broome was also extremely loyal towards Mr.Bannister. Even after she passed on, her spirit continued in its endeavour to serve her employer.

LONELINESS.
loneliness can be strong influence in a person's lofe . ms broome had no life outside of her office. that made her possesive of her position in the company ; a possesiveness that went beyond the grave.

COMMITMEN.
This attribute can be clearly seen in both lucy and Ms.Broome .Both are extremely commited to their profession.

THE SUPERNATURAL.
it is interesting that such an integral character in the story happens to be an ethereal entity. Yet this theme is rather prominent in the story .

COMPASIION .
this theme holds water especially in the final confrontation between Lucy and Ms Broome , rather it was through compassion and understanding of Ms. Broome's intention.

MORAL VALUES
*Do not judge a person morely through credentials or qualifications.
*We must be comitted and responsible to our vocation or profession.
*Wemust value our family.

Auras & Chakras
What Color is Your Aura?
Sachin D. Anchan looks at auras, Kirlian photography, the meaning of aura colors and how to see auras.
Ever wondered about golden haloes around head of saints, gods or spiritually enlightened people shown in their pictures? It is called Aura.
Everything is made of energy & vibrations. That’s why everything has an Aura. Aura is an energy field that reflects the subtle life energies within the body. It’s a personal electromagnetic energy field around each of us shaped like Eggshell.
google_protectAndRun("render_ads.js::google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);
It is a reflection of the body's spirit energy. It reflects our health, mental activity & emotional state. It also shows disease - often long before the onset of symptoms.
Basic Aura looks like layer of Light covered body from 2-3 inches. But it can extend. You can see colors in extended part.
Psychics can see auras. Very young children can see aura spontaneously. Infants frequently look ABOVE a person in front of them. When they don't like the color of the aura above the head, or if this color is much different from their parent's aura, they cry, no matter how much smiling the person does.
Do you feel attracted or repelled to some person without even knowing them? It is because we can feel energy of other people’s aura subconsciously.
Aura Photography
There have been various attempts to photograph the aura. Aura Photography was first experimented with by scientist Nicola Tesla in the 1890's. (By the way Tesla invented system for electrical transmission- the AC (alternating current) system that we use in our homes today & DC (Direct Current) is Edison’s invention) The Soviet Union included Aura Photography in the psychic research conducted in the 1960's. In 1975 The University of California at Los Angeles was able to measure Auras with great accuracy.
Semyon D. Kirlian a Russian technician was repairing equipment in a hospital when he noticed something unusual. He later found that through the interaction of electric currents and photographic plates, imprints of living organisms developed on film.
Kirlian and his wife developed the process in 1939. They call it the "Kirlian Effect" (pronounced keer-lee-an) In the late 1940's the Russians began serious research, but it was not until the 1970's that Kirlian photography research began in the United States.
Kirlian photography involves the transferring of a high frequency charge through a metal plate attached to a Polaroid film camera base. The finger tips are lightly placed on the film which is encased in a light-tight bag, and an electric exposure is made. Sixty seconds later, after the film develops, the Kirlian photograph is complete and the subject's energy field is revealed.
Have a look at these photos taken using kirlian method:
Apple

Human
Leaf
Butterfly
There are many different colored bands in a person’s aura.
Each color has significance on a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level. The color of the Aura is based on frequency (cycles/second) of light energy. For this reason, the Aura may, and often does, change color, as the movement of light particles in the auric field responds to external forces.
Meaning of colors
Purple: indicates spiritual thoughts.
Indigo: The color of the seeker who has inborn psychic and intuitive abilities. It represents an astounding ability in the handling of practical matters.
Blue: Balanced existence, sustaining life, eased nerve system, transmitting forces and energy. People with blue strong point in their Aura are relaxed, balanced and feel ready to live in a cave and survive.
Green: restful, modifying energy, natural healing ability. All natural healers should have it. People with a green strong point in their Auras are natural healers.
Yellow: joy, freedom, non-attachment, freeing or releasing vital forces. People who glow yellow are full of inner joy, very generous and not attached to anything.
Orange: uplifting and absorbing. Inspiring. A sign of power. Ability and/or desire to control people.
Red: materialistic thoughts, thoughts about the physical body. Predominantly red Aura indicates materialistically oriented person.
Brown: unsettling, distracting, materialistic, negating spirituality.
Gray: dark thoughts, depressing thoughts, unclear intentions, presence of a dark side of personality.

Why Is Love Important?Love is important because without it life has no meaning or purpose. Love allows us to be more and do more than we could ever accomplish without its power.
Enlarge ImageSo often we spend most of our time taking care of our physical needs. We make sure our bodies are fed, cleaned, clothed, exercised and rested. We also make sure intellectual stimulation and entertainment is a priority. Yet we also overlook the most important need -- love.Of course, as a society, love is not overlooked. Popular media constantly places great emphasis on what we need to do and how we should look to attract "love". But being loved is not as powerful an emotional need as that desire to love someone else. The need to love and care for others is built into us biologically. This need is what allows parents to forgo sleep, food, and sanity while raising their children. This need is what allows people to put themselves at risk to save others from natural disasters and human threats. This need is what makes human society work on both a small and large scale.Loving others allows us to put the needs and desires of others before our own. We will work harder and longer, sometimes at jobs we loathe, to provide for those we love. We will tolerate otherwise intolerable conditions to provide care for our loved ones whether they are young or old.Love means to cherish, hold dear, and treasure. We do not hurt, harm, or cause pain to those we love; rather, we seek to relieve their suffering. It is not about wanting people; it's about wanting people to be happy. It's not about wanting to possess or control others; it's about wanting to set them free.John Oxenham described love this way: "Love ever gives. Forgives, outlives. And ever stands with open hands. And while it lives, it gives. For this is love's prerogatives - to give, and give, and give." Love is the grease that allows the wheel of life to continue turning. For when we love we look beyond ourselves, beyond our needs and desires. We sacrifice our time, our energy, our wishes, and sometimes even ourselves because of love. Sometimes it is for an immediate person or group that we know intimately and love completely, but other times it is for a larger group of people that we don't really know or perhaps even like. It is love that allows law enforcement and emergency services personnel to face danger. It is love that allows soldiers to risk everything. Love makes heroes every day in every corner of the world. As Thomas ã Kempis said: "Love feels no burden, thinks nothing of trouble, attempts what is above its strength... It is therefore able to undertake all things, and it completes many things, and warrants them to take effect, where he who does not love would faint and lie down."The ultimate definition of love is not about feeling good but rather about doing good. A perfect example of love in action is Mother Teresa who worked so long and so hard on the behalf of others. However we see it all around us if we look for it. Robert Louis Stevenson said: "The essence of love is kindness." Love is important because without it life has no meaning or purpose. As Frank Tebbets says "A life without love in it is like a heap of ashes upon a deserted hearth, with the fire dead, the laughter stilled and the light extinguished." Love allows us to be more and do more than we could ever accomplish without its power.

diction
choice of words, especially with regard to correctness, clearness, or effectiveness. Any of the four generally accepted levels of diction-formal, informal, colloquial, or slang-may be correct in a particular context but incorrect in another or when mixed unintentionally. Most ideas have a number of alternate words that the writer can select to suit his purposes. "Children," "kids," "youngsters," "youths," and "brats," for example, all have different evocative values.

connotative

connotative versus denotative meaning Connotative meaning refers to the associations, overtones, and feel which a concept has, rather than what it refers to explicitly (or denotes, hence denotative meaning). Two words with the same reference or definition may have different connotations. Connotative meaning is often researched using the semantic differential, based in part on the phenomenon of synaesthesia, where experience in one sense modality is perceived with (or replaces) another modality: for example, where a sound is perceived as a colour or emotion, as in blue or sad music. See also DISCOURSE.

connotative and denotative meaning

Connotative vs. Denotative Vocabulary
Words are not limited to one single meaning. Most words have multiple meanings, which are categorized as either denotative or connotative. The denotation of a word is its explicit definition as listed in a dictionary. Let’s use the word “home” as an example. The denotative or literal meaning of “home” is “ a place where one lives; a residence.” Hint: Denotation, denotative, definition, and dictionary all start with the letter ‘D.
